10月16日 The Other Place Review by Mary A"Let's go to The Other Place" has become a popular catchphrase that's actually in favor of a stop at “The Other Place” , a growing hot spot for nightly entertainment, cocktails and a bite to eat. “The Other Place” is located just past the gas station on the south easterly corner of Euclid Ave and Broadway in the city of Anaheim. “The Other Place” used to be where Ceros’ Lounge was once upon a time, until its sale and name change by a graciously warm and enthusiastic couple. They have completed a remarkable and impressive job in remodeling the entire inside of the establishment and also included upgrades to a full kitchen that serves a variety of more than a few selections from their menu. “The Other Place” has additional plans to increase it's square footage by expanding into space recently acquired next door to it, once those renovations are completed. “The Other Place” does have Karaoke a couple nites during the week and hosts different live bands on Fridays, however Sundays 6p-10p (aprx) & Wednesdays 7p-11p (aprx) are what I am most familiar with, and those are the nights that “The Other Place” hosts the talents of David Alantar with his band of brass instrumentalists performing musical selections from Big Band to Swing, from Sinatra to Soft Rock and Pop. “The Other Place” is classy enough that ladies can wear cocktail dresses and heals and the gentlemen can wear dress shirts and slacks - for those who like to dress for an evening of dinner and dance. However, at the same time, “The Other Place” is comfortable and diverse enough that jean and tee-shirt or tank top couture would not be unwelcomed nor make anyone feel out of place. The clientele are diverse with ages ranging from mature late 20 or early 30 somthin' through long retired, but any noticeable age difference blurs quickly as Younger with the Older take to the dance floor. And boy can some of these folks move! Ageless they become coupled up, energetically swinging to "In the Mood". Ageless they are, embracing, slowly swaying to "Europa". Ageless they become as they endure free form bopping to what I like to call "the forever song". This "forever song" is a long rendition of Michael Jackson's Billy Jean that David plays and sings to, and it never fails to overflow any dance floor, The Other Place's being no exception!
Now, I don’t dance too much even though I like to. It seems most gentlemen want to hang onto and twirl me, even when i ask them not to. They dont believe me when i say "I have NO CLUE which way to go Or what to do right after", if by chance I DO make it under their arm & still on my feet! So alas, I avoid the risk of falling on my ass and watch from my seat as others dance (and fall ha ha). I'm very content to lip sync with the band or chat with friends at my table. I have to mention that the cocktail waitress is always attentive in keeping my drink refreshed and she's very busy I must say. Conversation is good with friends and customers nearby are friendly also and will chat as long as the music isn't too loud, which is sometimes a drawback with the good acoustics. There are several games to play and one particular Arcade game with lots of games on it that I spend a lot of time on. "Dave's Girl" is #1 on a few and in the top 10 on a lot of them and remains intent on competing to stay that way. Overall, I can think of no complaints about "The Other Place"but for 2 minor critiques transparent to most, but come from being a manager in customer sales and service & focused on business revenues. 1. being the bartender/s and the 2. being the food waitress/servers. Both can grow revenues even more by becoming more attentive to customers. New ones as they arrive to meet those already seated at tables or at the bar. Awareness of who's waiting and/or has been waiting first, standing or seated at the bar. Whos glass is almost empty or empty. These can add a few more dollars into the til. A bar vacant of a bartender loses money when customers tire of waiting and decide not to order or can't play the archade games due to lack of change. Food servers take notice of who's needing menus or returing to check on prior customer's who may grow hungry for a bite as time passes or after several food orders have deliciously gone by them. The not so shy can yell out "Hey" or blow a "cat call" if they're hungry or thirsty enough, but for the most part, manners reign. Overall, "The Other Place" is my favorite for a good time and great fun and I'll say again, the cocktail waitress's table service is wonderful and the music is awesome! "The Other Place" - Go there. You won't be disappointed!
